The GOP didn’t publish a party platform in 2020, instead pledging to “enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda.” I’ve spent a lot of time the past few years looking at survey data from a number of different outlets to see how the American public thinks about a variety of different foreign policy issues, and for this article I examined generational and partisan differences in foreign policy attitudes. It turns out, on economic globalization, China, and defense spending, younger Republicans are not on board with Trump and older Republicans. In fact, they usually lie somewhere between their party elders and Democrats.
